What Are You Doing Next Summer?

What are you doing next summer?

You could get a summer job and make some money.

You could take a vacation or two and have some fun experiences.

Or, you could finally take the time to focus on your relationship with God, to work through whether God might be calling you in a significant way to be a leader in your generation for Christ and Christ’s kingdom.

I know first hand how difficult it is to hear God's call alone. I spent several years in college and after college trying to figure out what God wanted me to do with my life.

When I finally responded to God’s call on my life, I wasn’t alone in my prayer closet or by myself reading scripture. I was in regular conversation with a small community of close friends who ate and prayed and worshipped together on a weekly basis. Before I ever submitted to an ordination process, I said “yes” to serving in a local church for a specific, limited amount time.

I came to trust that discernment is best done in community with holy friends. Greg Jones has written about holy friendships: "Holy friends challenge the sins we have come to love, affirm the gifts we are afraid to claim and help us dream dreams we otherwise would not dream.”

We know how difficult it is to get clarity on what God wants you to do with the rest of your life. But, we also know how much you desire to be faithful, how much you desire to use the gifts and talents that you have been given to make a difference in the world, to participate in God’s work.

That’s why we started The Church Leadership Cooperative (The Co-op), a ten-week summer internship experience of work, prayer, discipleship formation, and vocational discernment in a local church.

The Co-op offers you a diverse community of peers and network of church leaders who will challenge the sins we have come to love, affirm the gifts we are afraid to claim and help us dream dreams we otherwise would not dream.”

God may be calling you for such a time as this.

Maybe the summer of 2020 is the perfect time for you to take the first step.
